My Brother’s Freedom
Why didn’t he come home last night, you ask?
Well, why ask me?
I think we both know why my brother
Decided no to come home last night.
It was you!
It was you who yelled at him!
You called him useless,
And a dozen other terrible things,
And now you come to ask me where he is?
After putting up with you yelling at him
For so many years,
I’m surprised he held on so long!
The brother I know and love
Was a wild, free spirited young man.
He would do what he wanted
Not what others wanted him to do.
That was the brother I knew!
The brother I trusted!
The brother I loved!
The brother I looked up to!
You crushed his free spirit!
Like a fruit between your hands
Until the juice would run down your fingers.
Why were you always on his tail?
Always watching him,
Making sure he wouldn’t stray.
You made sure not even one toe was out of line.
But we both know that wasn’t like him.
